Stocking Guidelines

Tier 2 hides should be tanned in a 3:1 split between Fine Generic Leather (3) and Boiled Generic Leather (1)

Maintain minimum stock of at least 5 Fine Generic Leather and 5 Boiled Generic Leather at all times

Tanning

At the Workbench, Small Hides must be turned into Hides (2:1), and Hides must be turned into Large Hides (again, 2:1) before they can do onto the Tanning Rack to make the various flavors of leather.

Components

From the leathers, String and Bands are made.

Rawhide → Coarse Leather Band/String

Generic Leather → Rough Leather Band/String

Boiled Generic Leather → Leather Band/String

Fine Generic Leather → Fine Leather Bands/Fine String Leather

These components are used both in Leatherworking recipes, and by other professions, such as

Fletching⁠

and

Armor Smithing⁠

Outputs

Leather components are combined with Leather and components from other professions (most often

Blacksmithing⁠

) to create clothing pieces.

Storage

The current “working set” of leather and components from other professions is stored in the chest to the left of the Workbench, for easy access while crafting.

There are 24 chests along the back wall of the Leatherworking shop for storing leather pieces.

Each tier of leather has a group of 6 chests (2 wide x 3 tall), with Fine on the left, then Boiled, then Generic, then Rawhide on the right.

In each group of 6 chests, the top 2 chests on the left are for Leather, the bottom on the left is for string. The three chests on the right are for bands. If we have a lot of leather (*cough*Generic Leather*cough*), they make take up three chests, in which case they’ll bump the strings to the top right chest in the group.
